Long Way Home was created in 2010 and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization saving animals regardless of age, health, or species. Some may be healthy pets in an over-capacity shelter, some may need serious veterinary care or rehabilitation, others may be considered "unadoptable" or difficult-to-adopt due to age. We prioritize helping Texas animal shelters first, over any other cases. They are all rehabilitated and placed in loving forever homes. While we are an all breed rescue, we try to prioritize senior small breeds and medical cases.

A decade after becoming a nonprofit organization (2010), we expanded our mission to include more community outreach and service programs in 2022. We established permanent half priced military adoptions, free microchip events, free nail trim events, and low cost spay/neuter vouchers. In 2023, we continued new and innovative ways to help our community, by creating events where we provide free veterinary exams and veterinary technician services. in 2024, with your support, we hope to add on free vaccines for community pets as well.

Our foster-based rescue runs on public donations, and 100% of donations are tax deductible and used to ensure we are able to save as many animals as possible.
