  Once you've found a match, submit an adoption application.
• Connect with the Adoption Coordinator
  Our adoption coordinator will reach out to discuss your preferred animal.
• Meet the Foster Family
  If approved, we'll connect you with the animal's foster family. They know the animal best and will help determine if it's a great fit for both of you.
• Finalize the Adoption
  Once matched, you'll sign the adoption contract, pay the adoption fee, and bring your new baby home!

A Few Things to Know:

• Approval to adopt doesn't guarantee approval for a specific animal. We don't operate first-come, first-served — the foster family and our team choose the best-fit applicant for each animal's individual needs.
• Every foster family and team member is committed to making sure each move is truly the right one for the animal.
• Can't travel to pick up your pet? We work with transportation services to help get them home to you.

Long Way Home generally spends an average of $800 per dog and $400 per cat in our program for their medical and daily care costs. We might spend slightly less if the animal received vetting from the shelter they are pulled from, but expenses for most of our animals run much higher due to the health of those we generally rescue. Their adoption fee helps cover a portion of our expenses, and allows us to continue our life-saving mission!
